Montevallo Artwalk - ArtStalk

Join us for art, music, food and family activities

Montevallo will host the next Artwalk on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 1 to 6 p.m. The affordable art show is being held a little earlier in the day to offer families the opportunity to join for fun and shopping in the afternoon, but still have time for traditional Halloween fun after this event. Artwalk is presented by the University of Montevallo, the City of Montevallo and the Montevallo Arts Council. More than 80 artists and vendors are registered to participate.

In addition to being a lively street party, Montevallo Artwalk is an initiative to support downtown businesses and draw the university into the community while highlighting both the local and university eclectic art communities. Artists set up booths along Main Street and the University Promenade to display and sell their work. Artwork and fine crafts will be priced to sell to start your Christmas shopping by supporting local.

“Montevallo Artwalk showcases amazing talent through creative collaboration by the University, City and Montevallo Arts Council. The October Artwalk, or Art Stalk as it is also known, is a fun Halloween experience and a great time to start your Christmas shopping by purchasing unique, handmade items.” said Montevallo Artwalk Director, Tiffany Bunt.

Select artists will demonstrate their talent throughout the afternoon including chainsaw artist, Bobby “Bear” Jones, screenprinter Patrick Mayton and glass blowing artist Organic Hippie. A special viewing of “It’s Just a Game” short horror film by UM students will be available throughout the afternoon.

Live music also adds to the atmosphere including performances by MHS Band, Rosetta and the Stones, Phil Dudley, Bill Bellows Trio and Wanda Wesolowski. Music will also be available at Eclipse Coffee & Books starting at 3 p.m. with Early James.

The Art Stalk is the Halloween-themed Artwalk. All those in attendance are encouraged to dress up. A costume contest will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Preference will be given to originality and self-created costumes. Adult prizes include gift certificates to be spent at an artist’s booth at Artwalk. Children’s prizes will consist of area gift certificates and Artwalk gift certificates. Other activities for children include Lowe’s building workshop, face painting, pumpkin decorating, storytelling by Mr. Mac and special music by Zeus & Calliope.

Hang out with UM’s Freddie the Falcon and MHS Bulldog from 2 to 4 p.m. at Barnes & Noble College Bookstore.

Wrapping up the evening, the UM Office of Partnerships and Outreach will host a campus ghost walk from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Learn about the history of the ghosts who haunt Montevallo and view the door with the flaming face. The evening ends with music from Rocky Horror. Eclipse Coffee & Books will feature Rocky Horror Halloween by the Old Paints! beginning at 9 p.m.

At the five-year anniversary, the Montevallo Artwalk planning committee hopes that this event will continue to attract both community members and out-of-town visitors to the historic downtown area. Poster design for this event by UM student, Abbie Wilson.
